The consensus was it should remain broken for no more than an hour.  Anything longer than that and it needs to be rolled back or a branch needs to occur.  Of course, there will be exceptions to this, ie. you are the last person in the office, no one is checking in for the next 2-3 hours, etc.  Bottom line, COMMUNICATE with your team!

As far as what to do with the person that broke it?  A couple of ideas were suggested- wear a tutu, must buy doughnuts for the team the next day.
